Presentation

The research chair on tourism dynamics and socio-territorial relations is a group of researchers from different departments of ESG – UQAM. Its holder is Professor Dominic Lapointe of the Urban and Tourism Studies Department of ESG – UQAM.

The chair proposes to approach tourism from a multidisciplinary approach in a dynamic both of analysis of structures and analysis of actors. This approach is intended to break with traditional approaches where the different elements are studied separately with the tools of a discipline. It is with an approach fostering the complexity and understanding of the entanglements between geography, politics and society while approaching tourism as a creative act, among others in entrepreneurship.

This approach is also intended to be critical, because overall it questions the power relations in the social and spatial production of tourism, the systems of meaning with which tourism is part of continuity or rupture as well as the emancipatory potential of some. tourism initiatives.
